Why Raheem Sterling will shine for Chelsea as Todd Boehly sent 'great' £55m transfer message

William Gallas believes his former club Chelsea signing Raheem Sterling will be a "great" move for both parties. The Blues have agreed personal terms with the 27-year-old winger, who is expected to complete his move in the very near future.

football.london understands that Chelsea and Manchester City verbally agreed to a £45million (plus £10m in add-ons) deal for Sterling last week. This week has seen club officials finalising the deal, with personal terms also agreed.

Sterling is expected to become the first senior signing of Todd Boehly's time at the football club. The American is also acting as the sporting director on an interim basis and supposedly had a big role in the deal to sign Sterling.

The England international managed talks over his future himself, without the help of an agent, as he looked for guarantees over first-team football elsewhere. Sterling started just 23 times in the Premier League for Man City last season in their title-winning campaign.

Thomas Tuchel spoke with Sterling recently to try and persuade the winger to join Chelsea. It's said that a conversation with the German head coach was enough to lure the England international to move to west London.

So, it seems like it's just a matter of time until Sterling to Chelsea is announced and confirmed by the club. Tuchel will be hoping the speedy winger, who can also play down the middle in attack, will help Chelsea close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Gallas believes it will be a positive move for Sterling, and he will help Chelsea, who will be getting a type of player they haven't got in the squad right now.

"It will be a good move for Sterling because the last few years of the last seasons, he didn't play much with City," Gallas told football.london in an interview conducted by Genting Casino. "So, for him to move for Chelsea, it will be great. It will be great as well for Chelsea because we know the quality of Sterling.

"Very difficult to defend against him. He is the type of striker or winger who likes to have the ball in behind defenders. And as a former defender, we don't like it [these passes in behind] because Sterling is really quick. So, I think it can be a good signing if he can help Chelsea, and at the same time, I think in that position, Chelsea didn't have really that player who make the difference last season."
