Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is skipping voluntary workouts as he seeks a new contract. The key word here is voluntary. This isn’t really a major concern for the Jets.
All 32 teams were able to take part in offseason workouts Monday. Not surprisingly, top players that were either franchise tagged (Saquon Barkley) or seeking a new contract (Williams, Dexter Lawrence) are not taking part in these early portions of the offseason program. Again, we’re talking about voluntary workouts.
Williams’ contract is likely to be around $23 million per year, if not more. One of the key factors the Jets are going to have to figure out is the cap numbers, especially with the first year or two. The Jets also have a certain quarterback situation that they’re still trying to figure out.
Once they get Aaron Rodgers in tow and figure out his cap situation, then figure out where their cap stands in terms of draft capital, then they can start making more progress towards Williams’ contract.
My thoughts on the Quinnen Williams situation:
The Jets are pretty well focused on Aaron Rodgers and probably want to get him in line before really doing anything else major. Probably want an idea of what their cap situation is once Rodgers is in and what their draft capital is.

Even if Rodgers was already on the team, he likely wouldn’t have been around as much this early. At least with the Jets signing Tim Boyle, the Jets have someone that knows the offense of Nathaniel Hackett that can take reps in the meantime.
It’s still April. The Williams contract should get done at some point. There’s really no concern at this point.
