Why Patriots should consider trading for former Super Bowl MVP

The New England Patriots have a lot of work to do in the offseason, and they’ll have plenty of money to spend with $134 million in salary cap space.

The Patriots need help in multiple areas, but one of the areas of weakness that have lingered the longest is at wide receiver. Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp could be a possible trade target considering he is currently unsure of his future with the Rams organization.

The Patriots would be wise to make a play at the former Super Bowl MVP wideout.

Kupp had a down year in 2024, catching 67 passes for 710 yards and six touchdowns. Injuries and the continued emergence of Puka Nacua slowed his production.

Injuries have been a lingering issue for Kupp, who hasn’t played a full season since 2021. Regardless, he’s still an electric playmaker capable of helping the Patriots’ struggling offense.

He’d give them an immediate upgrade to help take some of the pressure off the other receivers. On the field, he’s a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, and he’d serve as a security blanket for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye when working the middle of the field.

Still, Kupp’s injury history is a concern, especially with him turning 32 years old next year. The heavy workload and consistent production over the years are beginning to take a toll on his body.

But he still has enough left in the tank to serve as a solid receiving option for the Patriots. Patriots Wire’s Jordy McElroy listed Kupp as one of five potential trade targets for the Patriots in the offseason. He suggested a 2025 third-round draft pick as the deal to get Kupp to New England.

The price seems fair given where Kupp and the Patriots are currently.
