Why Notre Dame CB Charles Du has a Chinese nameplate on his jersey

You might notice something unique on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish side of the field during Monday’s College Football Playoff National Championship game against Ohio State.

If you look closely on Notre Dame’s defense, you’ll spot Charles Du — a junior walk on cornerback from Beijing, China — who is sporting a Chinese nameplate! Notre Dame doesn’t usually use nameplates for regular season games, opting to go for a clean look on the back, but the Fighting Irish change that up for the playoffs.

Because of that, Du opted to have his name written in Chinese on his nameplate for Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff run to honor his heritage. Pretty cool!
