Marcel Sabitzer became Manchester United’s third and final loan signing of the January transfer window on Tuesday as he joined from Bayern Munich for the rest of the season.
The midfielder has been acquired as an emergency recruit amid Christian Eriksen being ruled out until April. Sabitzer had been tracked by the Reds for a number of years before a deal was completed inside the final 12 hours of the window upon the news about Eriksen.
The versatile talent has only started seven Bundesliga games for Bayern this season, and 15 overall since his arrival from RB Leipzig in 2021. But he is expected to fill in for Eriksen within Erik ten Hag’s midfield three alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes when he is available to play.

However, he will have to wait a few days before he is granted his United debut. He plays no part in the second leg of United’s League Cup semi-final with Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford due to signing too late for the clash.
EFL dictate that those who wish to be involved in a League Cup match must be registered with their club by midday the previous day. Sabitzer’s arrival was confirmed late on Tuesday evening after a late rush to get the paperwork over the line in time.
And so Sabitzer can eye Saturday’s 3pm home meeting with Crystal Palace as the first opportunity to make his Reds debut. Speaking upon his arrival, the 28-year-old said: “Sometimes in life you have to make quick and important decisions.
“From the moment I heard about this opportunity I knew it was right for me. I am a competitive player; I want to win and help the club achieve its aims this season.
“I feel that I am at my peak as a player, and that I can contribute a lot of experience and energy to the squad. I am excited to start with my new team-mates and manager and to show my qualities to Manchester United fans.”
