Charlie McNeill says Newport manager Graham Coughlan played a key role in convincing him to join the League Two side on loan.
The 19-year-old officially completed his move until the end of the season on deadline day, with the move subject to EFL approval and international clearance.
The Manchester Evening News revealed on Monday that the Manchester United striker had agreed to join Newport until the end of the season, despite having offers from higher up the English football pyramid.

McNeill's priority was for guaranteed playing time for the final few months of the season, something that the League Two strugglers could offer better than most other sides.
The teenager could make his debut for Newport when they host Swindon this weekend, and he can't wait to get started at his new club.
“I’m really proud and honoured to be representing this club. I know it’s a big club and a family-based club and I’m just really happy to be here," he said after his deal was confirmed.
“The gaffer made me feel really comfortable as soon as I spoke to him, he was really nice, he really sold it to me.
“I can’t wait to meet the lads, get training and hopefully play the game on Saturday!”
