Why Manchester United players are relishing busy Christmas period under Erik ten Hag

Manchester United's on-loan goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is looking forward to keeping the Reds' momentum going over the busy Christmas period.

United kicked off their festive fixture list in positive fashion after beating Burnley 2-0 at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup. In 2023, they will host League One's Charlton Athletic for a place in the League Cup semi-finals.

Before then, United will have to negotiate a busy Christmas period which sees them face Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on New Year's Eve before returning to Old Trafford to face Bournemouth on January 3. While some may dread the hectic schedule, Dubravka is relishing the prospect of more matches and says his teammates are ready to go.

He told the club's official website : "I think it’s the best time of the year, especially when you have five games in 12 days. It’s tough, but when you’re winning, you’re in a great mood.

"We’ll be there and we’ll be ready to hopefully give something back to the fans as well." When asked if there is a feel-good factor around Erik ten Hag's team at the moment, the Newcastle loanee added: "I think so, I think everyone enjoys the momentum.

"We’ve picked up a few points against very big teams, which is great for us. We’re up there and we still have a chance to fight for the titles.

"That’s important and everyone knows what to do so it’s good to be part of it." United are expected to welcome Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane back to Carrington next week following last weekend's World Cup final in Lusail.

Ten Hag will be eager to have the pair available for selection again, despite Casemiro's brilliant display in the heart of the defence against Burnley.
