Why Manchester United made half-time changes vs Omonia as Anthony Martial reaches landmark

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Friday, October 7.

Ten Hag reveals why he made double half-time substitution vs Omonia

Erik ten Hag said Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho were substituted for their lack of movement on the ball rather than their roles in Omonia Nicosia's opening goal.

Omonia took a surprising lead when Sancho's careless pass was met with an errant touch by Malacia, who was dispossessed midway through the Omonia half to spark a breakway that Karim Ansarifard finished in the 34th minute.

Malacia was withdrawn at half-time in the second game running, along with Sancho, for Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford. Rashford scored United's equaliser and eventual winner in a dicey 3-2 victory.

Martial reaches career milestone after making Omonia impact

Anthony Martial scored the 100th goal of his career as he helped Manchester United to victory over Omonia Nicosia on Thursday night.

Martial scored in the second half with a well-taken strike, which was his 100th goal for club and country. The forward now has three goals in just two games after scoring a brace from the bench in United's defeat against Manchester City at the weekend.

The 26-year-old struggled on loan at Sevilla last term, but Erik ten Hag was impressed by his performances in pre-season on tour in Thailand and Australia and the Dutchman made it clear he would have an important role to play in the squad.
