Gareth Southgate was 'delighted' with the performance of Manchester United's Harry Maguire for England on Friday night. England began their Qatar World Cup campaign with a dominant 6-2 win against Iran earlier in the week and Southgate named an unchanged side to play the United States of America, who had never lost to the Three Lions at a World Cup.
The USA were well organised in the match, Southgate's side were devoid of creativity and the points were eventually shared in a disappointing goalless draw, which means England are still yet to beat America at the tournament.
Although the manner of England's performance was underwhelming, Southgate made sure to praise Maguire after full-time.

The centre-back was crucial in England keeping a clean sheet and he delivered another strong individual display.
"With Harry, I'm delighted for him, that's the main thing," Southgate said. "He's been such an important player for us and we never had a single doubt about how important he was for us or the faith we needed to show.
"He's shown that with and without the ball in the two games we've had."
Maguire made his 50th cap for England against the USA.
