Manchester United's Eric Bailly was in Africa Cup of Nations action for Ivory Coast on Wednesday and was a distinctive player but not in the performance sense.
The 27-year-old was wearing a black rugby head guard after the central defender suffered a head injury during the 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone which resulted in his substitution.
As a result, he was forced to sit out of the group-decider against Algeria that booked their place in the Round of 16.
Bailly was passed fit to face Mohamed Salah's Egypt but was forced to wear the headpiece as he started for Les Elephants.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, manager Patrice Beaumille said: "Eric will be there. He will play in somewhat like a rugby look, with a scrum cap, but he will be there.
"He has recovered well."
The winner of the tie would face Morocco in the quarter-final and Bailly joined players such as Petr Cech and Wayne Rooney who have previously been forced to wear the equipment following a head injury.
Their introduction is said to have been designed to absorb the impact of blows to the head by external physical forces in order to reduce the chance of a concussion and is flexible as opposed to a rigid helmet.
