Why Loose Women is not on TV as ITV cancels all of this week's shows

Loose Women has had a firm hold on the British public since the daytime TV show first aired nearly 23 years ago. This means that, whenever the chat show is cancelled, disappointment often ensues.

And unfortunately, this week, the daytime favourite has been pulled off air. Yesterday's episode (March 14) was the first and last show of the week, with the panellists not making a return for quite some time. Usually airing between 12.30pm and 1.30pm from Monday to Friday, Loose Women has been axed to make space for ITV's coverage of Cheltenham Festival.

The Gloucestershire festival gets underway today, March 15, and will run until Friday, March 18. ITV will be broadcasting the 162-year-old festival live between 12:50pm and 4:30pm, meaning coverage starts 20 minutes after Loose Women usually airs.

Cheltenham Festival coverage will also take place on ITV1 and STV. Other quintessential daytime television programmes have not been cancelled. This Morning will air as usual all week, whilst ITV news will air at 12:30, 20 minutes prior to the start of Cheltenham Festival coverage.

Tipping Point, which usually airs at 4pm, has also been affected. Rather than the usual episodes, compilation editions will be shown instead, at the slightly later time of 4:30pm.

Loose Women will return to our screens in just under a week, on Monday, March 21. It will air at its usual time of 12:30pm.

This year's Cheltenham Festival marks the first time in two years that spectators have been allowed at the event, after the public was not allowed to attend in 2021. Around 250,000 people are expected to attend, with the main event considered to be the Gold Cup, which will take place on Friday, March 18.
