Why Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was spotted on Crosby Beach as £10,000 challenge continues

Jamie Carragher joined a Liverpool business leader at Crosby Beach on Monday in a bid to support disadvantaged young people this Christmas.

James Winters, owner of M-Tech and The Phoenix Hotel chain, is running 5km a day for 100 days to raise £10,000 for SMILE (Support Mission in Liverpool Education) Project and Football for Change in his Running Up To Xmas initiative.

The final total will be donated to North West families in need to ensure they have electricity, heating, food and gifts for children over the Christmas period amid the cost of living crisis.

Carragher joined James for a 5km run around Crosby Beach on Monday morning after seeing the charitable efforts of the Bootle-born former Port Vale youth team footballer.

James was also joined by family and friends as he looks to reach his £10,000 target in time for the final day of his challenge on Christmas Eve.

Last Christmas, James personally chauffeured 10 families in Liverpool to his Phoenix Hotel, based in Kirkdale, offering a free room for the night and a hot meal before having Father Christmas deliver toys to each child.

Carragher joined James for the 88th consecutive run of the Running Up To Xmas challenge as he clocks up an aggregate of more than 11 marathons across the three months.

Liverpool legend Carragher said: "It really is brilliant what James Winters is doing and I'm proud to have joined him for a run - even if it was freezing!

"James is a Bootle lad who is doing well for himself but he has not forgotten his roots and wants to give back to those less fortunate whenever he can. I really hope James hits his target to try and help as many people as possible.

"It is amazing to have an ambassador like James who represents everything Football for Change stands for."

James is running 500 kilometres in 100 days to raise money for SMILE Project and Football for Change. You can donate HERE.
