Why Leeds Train Station pub The Beer House is the 'worst bar in Leeds' according to Tripadvisor

Leeds' worst rated bar, according to Tripadvisor, has been branded "extortionate" with "sky high prices" and visitors have told people to "avoid" it all costs.

The Beer House, in Leeds Railway Station, came bottom of the list of 224 bars listed in the city. It currently holds a 2/5 star rating after receiving five reviews, with three of the reviews rating it "terrible".

Visitors have said they were "gobsmacked" by the prices there, notably with a pint of San Miguel coming to a lofty "£6.39", a bottle of Corona for "£5.50" and a glass of Prosecco "just short of a tenner".

One visitor however said the bar was "neat and tidy, [with] good décor and furnishings". We've listed some of the reviews below, scroll down to see what people have said.

The Beer House management declined to comment.

‘Extortion!’

Michael, from Leeds, said: “Stupidly went to bar and ordered a glass of Prosecco and half a Theakston’s without looking at price.

“Prosecco just short of a tenner a glass! And it was flat, although they did change it when challenged.

“Avoid. Sky high price. Nip down to Spoons instead and swallow your political aversion to the place!!”

‘Extortion agreed’

Peter N said: “Called in for a pint after the Leeds match last Sunday (March 13). I ordered a pint of San Miguel. I was gobsmacked to be charged £6.39!

"That's more than London prices! I agree with the person who wrote the other review about high prices for beer here.”

‘Check prices before buying’

A Tripadvisor user going by ‘L I’ said: Had a baileys coffee which was reasonably priced. Went back for a bottle of corona... £5.50...could not believe it! Good atmosphere but way too expensive! Leeds is getting really overpriced!”

‘Sort it out!’

“Service was shocking,” said Claire Summers, who went on to write an almost 300-word tirade about what she felt was wrong with The Beer House.

“I popped in and ordered a breakfast, asked if I could have chips instead of potato rosti… the young girl behind the bar called her colleague over to work the till… he actually broke off from bringing our other people’s cooked food (I would have waited!) and then it took over 5 minutes for them to faff with the till… eventually my food came and they had given me potato rosti instead of chips, after all that faff!!

“Also, the bartender had asked if I wanted brown or white toast. I said brown but they brought white.

“When I queried this they said “we don’t have any brown bread” this was actually shouted across the room from behind the bar, as opposed to them coming over to my table.

“At this point I regretted deciding to try this place and asked for a refund. I then had to wait a further 10 minutes for the manager to sort out the till. She barely made eye contact with me. She certainly did not engage in any conversation with me about what I was dissatisfied with. Just a mumbled apology and she refunded the food but not the drinks - although I wouldn’t have ordered the drinks if i had known the food would be wrong and the staff so uncaring/disorganised. I didn’t have time to argue about refunding the drinks I just left while I still had time to grab a sandwich from M&S before my train.

“Oh and the coffee wasn’t good it hardly tasted of anything.

“Zero out of ten. From a person who eats out a lot and has worked in the service industry.”

'Great end to our trip'

Neil K, from Liverpool, had more positive words to say about the bar, he said: "My twin brother Stephen and I had a great five day stay in Leeds ,visited lots of great tourist places, enjoyed the great architecture and visited all the best pubs, bars and restaurants to be found in the vibrant city of Leeds, before catching our train back to Liverpool we had a bit of a wait so we dropped into The Beer House inside Leeds Railway Station.

"A nice bar, neat and tidy, good décor and furnishings, a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this bar both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling railway concourse.

"We got a beer each and sat outside were we went over the great five days we had enjoyed in Leeds ,a much underrated city to visit , beer was good, iced cold and sparkling, we stayed here till we went to catch our train, a really good railway bar most definitely well worth checking out if you're in Leeds Railway Station."
