Why Leandro Trossard's goal at Leicester was disallowed as Arsenal fume at VAR again

Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta went ballistic after seeing Leandro Trossard's stunning strike ruled out against Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

The Belgian had lashed home from the edge of the area after the hosts had failed to clear a corner, with Danny Ward well beaten.

The goalkeeper did eventually play a role in the moment though, but only after referee Craig Pawson had gone over to the monitor to hear from VAR official Michael Salisbury.

Further inspection revealed that Ben White was holding onto the keeper's arm during the corner itself, leaving the Welshman sprawled on the floor.

The decision did not take particularly long to arrive with only a brief check of the monitor needed - a call that left Arteta and his charges furious.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, pundit Danny Gabbidon agreed with the decision.

"I think it is a foul, I think Ben White impedes the goalkeeper. He's trying to be clever but it's not so clever when VAR can take a look at it," he said.

"I'd hate to be a player with VAR and how it looks into every detail but I think they've got it right."

The Gunners were on the receiving end of one of the most controversial VAR calls this season when a goal from Brentford's Ivan Toney was allowed to stand in a match at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month, a decision that was later proved to be incorrect as VAR Lee Mason 'forgot' to draw the offside line in the correct position in a moment that the PGMOL, the refereeing body, put down to "human error".

Mason was removed from his role as a VAR the following week.

"We ended the [Brentford] game, after analysing it with the evidence and images, with a huge anger and disappointment," said Arteta after the incident.

"Because that wasn't a human error. That was a big, big, big not conceiving and understanding your job. That's not acceptable, I'm sorry. And that cost Arsenal two points and that's not going to be restored."
