Why Jurgen Klopp was sent off during Liverpool's win vs Manchester City

Jurgen Klopp was sent off as part of a full-throttle second-half in the 1-0 win against Manchester City.

The Liverpool boss was shown a straight red card by referee Anthony Taylor after an altercation with the assistant referee. Bernardo Silva looked to have fouled Mohamed Salah right in the eye-line of the assistant, but with City breaking away and a foul not given, Klopp charged down the touchline and looked to have screamed aggressively in the face of the official.

Taylor sent off the German for his aggressive behaviour, and in the aftermath there was a coming together between Silva and Salah as tempers flared.

"Look it was a foul on Mo Salah, absolutely no doubt," Neville said on the foul, "Oh Bernardo Silva and Salah are having a bit of a to-do. It all comes from that challenge on the corner from Silva on Salah, he just grabs him - how is that not a foul?

"The assistant referee is in front of it. Jurgen Klopp charges down the touchline, there you go, that’s the red card."

Klopp's outburst was just one of several explosive events during the second-half at Anfield, with Phil Foden's disallowed goal lighting the touchpaper for fireworks. Pep Guardiola whipped the home crowd into a frenzy after his side's goal was chalked off, and when Salah raced through to score the eventual winner, Reds fans were in ecstasy.

City piled on the pressure and tempers frayed as desperation on both sides kicked in, but Liverpool were able to withstand any pressure and hold on for a vital win.
