Why Junior Firpo was missing from Leeds United's defeat at Crystal Palace

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has provided an update on Junior Firpo, after the Spaniard missed the Whites clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

Firpo made his return to Premier League action two weeks ago in Leeds 0-0 draw with Aston Villa. Coming on off the bench, the 26-year-old played 32 minutes in the stalemate draw.

The left-back had missed every single game up until that point so far this season due to a knee injury which has hampered the start of his campaign.

However, when the team news was announced on Sunday afternoon for Leeds clash against Palace, Firpo was missing from the matchday squad entirely after making his season debut the weekend before.

His absence meant Pascal Struijk continued to serve as the Whites makeshift left-back, with the Dutchman even bagging a goal at Selhurst Park against the Eagles.

Firpo's absence prompted Marsch to address it in his post-match press conference, where he revealed to reporters the left-back had picked up a minor knock after the Villa draw. He should be ready to go next week when the Whites face off against Arsenal at Elland Road.

Speaking after the Palace defeat, Marsch said: "Junior Firpo just picked up a little something after the last game so we wanted to give him the week and he'll be ready by next week."
