Why Jorginho shouted at Chelsea teammates and what happened to Conor Gallagher before Blues win

Chelsea didn't make it easy but in Graham Potter's opening Premier League match with the Blues, managed to come away with three points. It was not a dominant outing by the west London side but Conor Gallagher produced the standout moment of the match to deliver a win for Chelsea at Selhurst Park.

The Blues went behind when Jordan Ayew delivered an expert cross for Odsonne Edouard to finish after slack defending from Wesley Fofana and Thiago Silva appeared to narrowly escape a red card when he hooked the ball away from a promising Palace attack. First goals from Gallagher and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang allowed followers to see some promise in the Blues' performance.

It's been around a month since Chelsea last recorded a win, with two Champions League defeats the only results following the victory over West Ham at the beginning of September. The perfect time to sit back and take in the game as football.london looks at the moments you may have missed below:

Conor Gallagher x Crystal Palace

There's no doubting the respect that Gallagher and followers of Crystal Palace have for each other. The Chelsea midfielder was named the Eagles player of the season last term for good reason, and it's clear the Selhurst Park supporters had a lot of respect for Gallagher's efforts.

The 22-year-old received a standing ovation as he left the pitch following his pre-match warm-up and received another steady applause as he appeared from the tunnel to take his place on the bench. The Selhurst faithful even showed their appreciation when he entered the pitch in the second period of the game with the scores tied.

They were likely less thankful for Gallagher's supreme strike, but the former loanee restrained his celebrations despite netting his first Chelsea goal. The Cobham product simply welcomed the swarm of his teammates rather than tearing away in celebration, there there is no doubting he was desperate to score.

Gallagher said following the game: “I was dying to get on the pitch. I felt like I could help the team win the game and thankfully I got the chance to get a shot off and it went in, and it had to come against Crystal Palace.”

Jorginho's fury

It was far from plain sailing for the Blues, and with not much time spent on the training pitches to become familiar with Potter's process, it appeared things were still being ironed out on the pitch. Chelsea's asymmetric shape was set up to target the Eagle's left-hand side and at moments worked well in pressuring Crystal Palace in their own half.

The Blues were far from free-flowing, however, and with the ball in the centre of the pitch, Jorginho was unhappy what he could see to his right. The Italian midfielder shouted and hurriedly pointed and attempted to cajole his teammates into the right paths to get their play moving.

There was some success but it was a difficult afternoon for the west London side's captain as he later grimaced his way off the pitch when he was substituted for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the second period.

Graham Potter's first-half conversation

After Aubameyang netted Chelsea's opening goal, Potter had the ideal opportunity to deliver any messages he had to his team. Nathaniel Clyne required treatment after challenging Thiago Silva in the air, and the Blues' XI were able to head to the dugout to take on liquids and stock of their performance.

Potter made use of his stoppage to get into deep conversation with Fofana, the main culprit in Edouard's opening goal of the game. The Frenchman did not seem quite content with what was required of him as the Chelsea coach put an arm around the young defender for feedback on the game. The former Leicester star appeared to get advice on his press and did improve as the game went on. A difficult start for Fofana but a promising outcome.
