Why Jesse Marsch has made a U-turn on his Leeds United transfer talk

Jesse Marsch has previously been open when discussing Leeds United's activity on the transfer market, but the American has been less forthcoming during the current January transfer window.

The Whites have already landed the signings of Max Wober and Georginio Rutter from Red Bull Salzburg and Hoffenheim respectively, with the latter arriving on a club record fee.

However, Marsch has been less inclined to discuss speculation regarding the club's targets this month, and explains the two key reasons behind his strategy.

"I've talked about the obsession with the transfer market and I think it takes away from the focus on the team. It's made it easier for Andrea [Radrizzani], Victor [Orta] and Angus [Kinnear] to manage the market without me talking about it every press conference," Marsch told the media.

"I think it also keeps my focus and our team's focus squarely on exactly the task at the hand, with what's important from our team from match to match. So that's been the strategy behind that."

Wober made his first start for the Whites in Wednesday's 5-2 victory over Cardiff City in the FA Cup third round replay, after coming off the bench in the original tie against the Bluebirds, and the defeat at Aston Villa.

Rutter was ineligible to make his debut against Cardiff in midweek, but is in contention to make his Premier League bow when Brentford visit Elland Road on Sunday.
