It sounds like it was an equal battle between Ja’Marr Chase and Jalen Ramsey on Day 1 of joint practices between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams.
Buy Bengals TicketsBut Chase sought out Ramsey after practice looking to pick his brain about a new NFL rule.
Chase wanted pointers on a “catch” technique defensive backs are now allowed to use, and Ramsey was more than willing to help.
“(Ramsey) plays eight-to-ten yards off. So if I do a go route or a double move, he’s still at 10 and sits there on his body and I’ll run into him,” Chase said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. You’re not going to call a penalty on either of us unless I intentionally run through him. I have to make him miss and (make him) hold me. The best thing I can do is push his (butt) off. Just keep trying to get open, keep fighting to do my job.”
On the day, Ramsey almost picked Joe Burrow twice, but Chase had a few nice moments, including one big highlight play and the critical catch that set up the “game-winning” field goal to end the day.
It’s always nice to see these little insights about players like Chase. Of course, we already had a behind-the-scenes look at what makes him great, but this is another small nugget that shows his dedication to his craft.
