Why isn't Bournemouth vs Liverpool Carabao Cup game live on TV in UK?

Bournemouth and Liverpool meet in an all-Premier League Carabao Cup affair on the south coast tonight.

The Vitality Stadium plays host to a fourth round meeting between two sides experiencing very different fortunes in the top-flight so far this season, with a quarter-final spot the prize on offer.

Liverpool are currently flying high with their re-tooled midfield working wonders and Mohamed Salah-led attack as potent as ever, winning three straight matches against all competitions and meeting preciously little resistance from Everton, Toulouse or Nottingham Forest.

Jurgen Klopp's side look to have their mojo back after the disappointment of last season when they won only the Community Shield and failed to finish in the top four altogether, sitting three points off top spot in the Premier League as things stand and well on track for the Europa League knockouts.

Championship leaders Leicester were also felled in the last round of the Carabao Cup, which Liverpool have won a record nine times - last in 2022.

It's been a different story for Bournemouth, whose victories over second-tier duo Stoke and Swansea remained their only wins of the campaign so far until they finally ended their top-flight duck with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over fellow strugglers Burnley on Saturday secured via a stunning late goal from Philip Billing.

Out of the relegation zone and with at least some of the pressure eased on manager Andoni Iraola, the Cherries now face Liverpool for the second time already this term, having lost 3-1 at Anfield in a dramatic league encounter back in August despite taking a shock early lead and seeing Alexis Mac Allister sent off in the second half.

Fans hoping to watch this fixture live on television in the UK will not be able to do so, however.

Sky Sports have an exclusive broadcast deal with the EFL to show 15 live Carabao Cup games per season, which typically equates to two in a round - usually spread out over Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, despite this week's selections meaning that both televised games are taking place on Wednesday, Bournemouth vs Liverpool has been overlooked.

Instead, Sky will be showing both West Ham vs Arsenal (7:30pm GMT) as Declan Rice pays a first visit back to his former club and also Manchester United vs Newcastle (8:15pm), which is an intriguing rematch of last seasons's Wembley final.

The only television coverage in the UK will be highlights, the rights of which belong to ITV. This week their programme begins at 11:30pm on ITV4 on Wednesday night.

You can follow live coverage of Bournemouth vs Liverpool tonight though via Standard Sport's dedicated match blog.
