Why isn’t Alexander Skarsgård wearing pants in his IMDb photo?

Swedish-born actor Alexander Skarsgård is a bonafide international celebrity. He’s the son of iconic actor Stellan Skarsgård (Andor, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Deep Blue Sea) and has made a name for himself since 2008’s HBO series True Blood.

Skarsgård has most recently been captivating audiences as the aloof and overly cool Lukas Matsson in the Succession and previously Big Little Lies to complete the HBO series trifecta. He’s had major roles in movies like The Northman, Godzilla vs. Kong and Battleship. At nearly 6-foot-5 with Nordic features, Skarsgård is widely considered very handsome.

Therefore you’d assume his official actor page on the very popular Internet Movie Database (IMDb) website would be something very classy and represent his impressive career.

Uhhhh what is this?

Yes, that’s Skarsgård in half of a tux. The top half, to be clear. Thankfully, the video on that same actor page explains everything.

In 2016, Skarsgård presented the Movie of the Year award at the MTV Movie Awards alongside Samuel L. Jackson his co-star from The Legend of Tarzan which released the same year.

“The year before Zac Efron had taken his shirt off on stage, and he is so sexy,” Skarsgård explains in the clip. “I decided to also show a little bit of skin.” The actor opted for ditching his pants as to not replicate Efron’s same skin-baring stunt, and the moment was born.

So there you have it. A wild stunt turned into an iconic headshot.
