Why is there a massive PS5 God of War Kratos Leviathan Axe in the middle of London?

A massive replica of the Leviathan Axe from the popular God of War video game has been spotted in London. Sony has placed the axe there to celebrate the variety of games they produce as well as hail the end of a PlayStation 5 shortage.

The axe is the iconic weapon used by the Greek god, Kratos from the action adventure franchise that started back in 2005. The most recent instalment of the game called God of War: Ragnarok was released late last year, selling a whopping 5.1 million copies between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions in it's first week on sale.

Sony say the axe, which can be found on London's Southbank, will be there until Tuesday evening while another replica has been spotted on display at the Lotte World ice rink in Jamsil, South Korea. A tweet from PlayStation UK with pictures of the axe reads: "Breaking News - A GIANT Leviathan Axe spotted in London. Reports claim Kratos is furiously mashing Triangle in Midgard right now.

"If you're considering seeing it in person, experts speculate the axe will be gone by Tuesday evening. (And please do not attempt to lift the axe, Kratos will be angry)".

Along with the campaign, Sony have thanked fans for their "patience" following an "unprecedented demand for the PS5 console amid global challenges." Upon the PS5's release back in 2020 gamers found it very difficult to buy the console following a worldwide supply issue.

Earlier this year, PlayStation CEO, Jim Ryan confirmed that the console shortage is over after the company reported 30 million units sold since it's release.
