Why is the Tesco Clubcard app being axed? What happens to my points and vouchers?

You may have long since ditched your physical Tesco Clubcard in favour of scanning your phone at the checkout instead - but the handy app is getting the chop next month.

From April 18, shoppers will have to download and use the new Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app to avail of all the usual Clubcard prices.

The app will allow shoppers to collect Clubcard points and instantly turn them into vouchers, as well as create shopping lists. You'll also be able to check your local store and see what’s in stock.

How to download the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard app

The new app is available to download on Android and Apple. Just download it through the current Clubcard app and your account will automatically be moved.

You can download the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard app from Apple and GooglePlay.

How to keep your Clubcard points

If you're concerned about losing your current Clubcard points, then fear not.

Customers will not lose any points, vouchers or coupons. They will simply rollover to the new Grocery and Clubcard app.

For those who don’t download the new app, their points will be available on their online account.

What does Tesco say?

A Tesco spokesperson said: "With the combined power of Clubcard Prices, coupons and vouchers alongside our Reward Partner codes, Clubcard is the best way to get value at Tesco – and our Grocery and Clubcard app is the easiest way to make the most of all your Clubcard has to offer.

"You can use it when shopping online or in-store as a one-stop-shop to save money, collect points and use your vouchers and coupons.

"You can also unlock extra value from your vouchers by using them with one of our Reward Partners through the Grocery & Clubcard app."

The change will be made effective in every Tesco store - including large supermarkets, Tesco Express and Tesco Metro stores.

*The supermarket giant axed a different app - the Pay+ app - at the end of last month. This let you store your credit or debit card and Clubcard details, allowing you to scan a single barcode in the app to quickly pay and collect Clubcard points. These functions are now available in the new Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app.
