Sports fans who had been relying on the BT Sport app to stream their favourites have been gutted to find out that it would be closing down.
As of Thursday, October 12, the BT Sports app has been shut down across all platforms.
However, all is not doom and gloom, as the app has been replaced by a new one that will give sports fanatics access to the same events.
Here is a comprehensive look at why the app was shut down, what it has been replaced by, and how you can continue to watch the streamed content.
Why has the app closed?
Back in July, BT announced that BT Sport would be rebranding as TNT Sports in the UK and Ireland.
The rebrand came as the result of a merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, who already own the global TNT Sports brand.
In line with that, the decision was made to close the BT Sport app and replace it with a new one.
What has it been replaced by?
The BT Sport has been replaced by the TNT Sports, which is under the Discovery umbrella.
So, all the sports that fans used the old app for will now be shown through the Discovery+ app instead, including events belonging to the Premier League, Champions League, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, UFC, Boxing, and WWE.
As TNT Sports is a global sports platform, streamers will also have access to Eurosport events, including the Australian and French Tennis Grand Slams, Grand Tour cycling, the Summer Olympic Games in Paris and more.

How to watch the same programming
All sports fans have to do to access the same programming is download the free Discovery+ app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.
Those with an existing subscription to BT Sport through BT or EE will then be able to activate their new account on the app with a seamless transition.
In a recent press release, TNT Sports explained: “Existing TNT Sports subscribers via BT and EE can head to www.bt.com/activate to find out how to activate their discovery+ account for all live premium streamed content.”
