Why is Jack Whitehall not hosting the Brits? Presenter steps back as Mo Gilligan takes over

There is a change in host for this year's Brit Awards as Mo Gilligan replaces Jack Whitehall as master of ceremonies for the annual event.

Jack has raised a few eyebrows as host over the last few years, famously prompting a rather awkward moment between Liam Payne and Cheryl as rumours swirled about the future of their relationship, taking the mickey out of the likes of Olly Murs and Niall Horan and grilling Perrie Edwards on her pregnancy last year.

But it will be down to Masked Singer star Mo to take the Brits reins this year after Jack stepped back from the role.

Explaining why he stood down as Brits presenter in an interview with The Independent, comedian Jack said: "After that first time, I was conscious of not outstaying my welcome - I wanted to make sure people still enjoyed seeing me do it.”

Predicting that Mo will be the perfect replacement for him at the Brit Awards 2022, Jack added: "It'll be strange seeing someone else doing it because it has become a bit of a fixture for me and something that I look forward to each year but I'm sure Mo will do a great job."

On getting the Brits hosting gig back in November, The Lateish Show host Mo commented: "It’s an absolute privilege to host the 2022 BRIT Awards. I’m truly honoured to be asked.

"We’re already in the extensive planning stages and all I can say is, I promise we’re going to give it all we’ve got to create an incredible night for music fans everywhere. Let’s go!"

Coverage of this year's Brits will go out live on ITV at 8pm on Tuesday, with performances from the likes of Adele, Sam Fender and Ed Sheeran.
