Young British superstar Emma Raducanu will not be playing at Wimbledon this year.
Just one year ago Raducanu was lining up for a huge return to SW19 after her US Open triumph, where she was unfortunately knocked out of the tournament in the second round.
Triple surgery has put the 20-year-old out of contention to play in this year's edition of the coveted lawn tennis competition.
She's had an operation on her ankle, as well as one on each hand. It's likely she will be out for the remainder of the tennis year, with the operations taking place in a time frame of just two weeks.
The starlet believes a hard reset could help her in the long run: "“I don’t think it is bad mentally to take a break, reset, and get really hungry for it again," she said.
"I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training as well as cutting last season short to try heal it, unfortunately it's not enough."
She could see a return in January 2024 at the Australian Open.
