Why is Eamonn Holmes using a wheelchair? GB News presenter back from Mediterranean cruise with Katie Alexander

Eamonn Holmes has reportedly returned to the UK after a luxury Mediterranean cruise with his girlfriend Katie Alexander.

The GB News and former GMTV presenter is now back to reality and could be set for divorce proceedings, with Metro reporting that his ex, Ruth Langsford, has hired a lawyer.

Holmes married Langsford in 2010 and they have a son, Jack.

It was reported in May that the two were separating.

Holmes was pictured at Heathrow Airport on Monday with Alexander and another recent companion, his wheelchair.

Before leaving on their cruise, Holmes and Alexander were seen in Barcelona struggling with the wheelchair as they prepared to board the liner.

The pictures showed the health issues that Holmes is continuing to face as he prepares to return to GB News as their main breakfast show anchor.

Why is Eamonn Holmes using a wheelchair?

Holmes, 64, has been battling ill health for some time.

In 2016, he underwent a double hip replacement operation lasting three-and-a-quarter hours after living with acute pain for many years.

Things worsened in 2021 when he slipped three discs in his back, causing him to lose mobility. And last year, his back surgery went “wrong”, leaving him in need of a wheelchair ever since.

Holmes has spoken of his fear that he might never regain mobility but he has seen some progress in recent times.

On July 8, he posted a photo of himself standing without assistance. And then on July 24, he demonstrated to his Instagram followers how he was using a special treadmill to try and regain his walking ability.

“So this gives me a certain amount of freedom and the idea is that I build up muscle memory and y'know things will happen, hopefully in the future,” he said.

After some fans noticed his absence from GB News, he reassured his 1.1 million followers that it was all due to something as simple as a summer holiday, writing: “People seem unfamiliar with the concept of Summer Holidays.”

He dismissed any concern and added: “See you next week!”
