Why has Love Island’s Jack Fincham been jailed and what dog did he have?

Former Love Island star Jack Fincham has been jailed for two offences relating to a dangerous dog.

Fincham found fame on the 2018 series of the ITV2 show, which he won with then-girlfriend Dani Dyer. The pair split six months after taking home the £50,000 prize.

The 32-year-old became embroiled in a legal battle over his pooch, named Elvis, after it bit a runner three years ago.

Following a second incident – which took place while Fincham was subject to a suspended sentence for an unrelated offence – the reality TV personality has been jailed.

The former Love Islander’s dog, named Elvis, was a black cane corso – an “assertive, confident [and] peerless protector”, according to the American Kennel Club.

Their lineage goes back to Roman times and the breed name roughly translates to “bodyguard dog” in Latin.

The breed is not banned, but the American Kennel Club warns: “Corsi are intelligent, loyal, eager to please, versatile, and intensely loyal to their humans, but are also assertive and willful, and can end up owning an unwitting owner.

“As with any other big guardian dog, responsible breeding and early socialization with people and other dogs is vital.”

The fate of Fincham’s dog is unclear.

Why was Jack Fincham jailed and for how long?

Fincham has been jailed for six weeks after pleading guilty to two counts of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog.

The first incident, in September 2022, saw the former Love Island star’s dog bite a runner in his hometown of Swanley, Kent. The man, called Robert Sudell, accepted an apology and Fincham was due to be cautioned. Conditions – including that the dog should be muzzled while out in public – were also put in place, prosecutor Ellen Peck told the Southend Magistrates’ Court hearing.

However, in June last year, there was a second incident which saw the dog out of control in Essex, and Fincham was later charged.

He was subject to a suspended sentence order of 12 weeks for a separate offence at the time of the Swanley incident. As a result, the magistrate said this part of the order would be activated and he was jailed for six weeks.

Fincham has also been ordered to pay £3,680, including a £2,000 contribution to kennel costs.
