With families being plunged into poverty as bills skyrocketed earlier this year, it comes as no surprise that many are concerned about how they’ll get by month-to-month.
Now, many are wondering why they received their child tax credits early for July 2022, with some taking to social media to ask HMRC what had happened.
If you’re unsure as to why your July payment, as well as other dates, may not come on the date you expected, here’s everything you need to know.
Why has child tax credit been paid early?
If your child tax credit payment was paid early, HMRC Customer Support has tweeted to say that this is due to the bank holiday in Northern Ireland.
For anyone receiving tax credits of any kind, bank holidays in any part of the UK may lead to your payment being made earlier than usual.
The following list shows the government’s list of tax credit due dates, the actual expected payment dates and the affected locations (if none are specified, it affects the whole of the UK):
- 12 July 2022- 11 July 2022
- 13 July 2022 - 12 July 2022 (England and Scotland only)
- 1 August 2022 - 29 July 2022
- 2 August 2022 - 1 August 2022 (England and Northern Ireland only)
- 29 August 2022 - 26 August 2022
- 26 December 2022 - 23 December 2022
- 27 December 2022 - 23 December 2022
- 28 December 2022 - 23 December 2022
- 29 December 2022 - 28 December 2022 (England and Scotland only)
- 2 January 2022 - 30 December 2022
- 3 January 2023 - 30 December 2022
- 4 January 2023 - 3 January 2023 (England and Northern Ireland only)
If your payment is late, be sure to check the date on your award notice and speak to your bank. If the matter has still not been resolved, contact HMRC on 0345 300 3900 from 8am to 6pm between Monday and Friday. The phone line is closed on weekends and bank holidays.
