GLASGOW residents are being warned to expect a "loud warning" siren today (Wednesday, April 10).
Gas network company SGN will conduct a routine test of the warning siren at its Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) site on Blochairn Road in Provan on Thursday, April 10.
Ahead of the sirens being tested this morning, here's everything you need to know:
When will SGN test the alarms?
The tests will be carried out from 10am this morning (Thursday, April 10).
How long will the sirens last for?
The warning alarms will last for a maximum duration of one hour, during which both 'warning' and 'all-clear' sirens will sound several times.
How often are the tests carried out?
According to SGN, the tests are carried out every six months as the safety of the site is 'really important' to the firm.
When was the last test?
The last test was carried out on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Another test was previously completed in April 2024 as well.
What have SGN said ahead of the test this morning?
SGN spokesperson Dan Brown said: “We carry out these tests every six months because the safety of the Provan community is really important to us.
"While the test scheduled at 10am on Thursday, April 10 is routine and nothing to be concerned about, it’s important nearby residents and businesses are familiar with the sound of the siren and know what they need to do in case a real incident ever takes place.
