Why Gianni Vio remained at Tottenham, the Julian Nagelsmann situation and a big problem for Levy

It has been yet another week of chaos at Tottenham Hotspur with chairman Daniel Levy sacking interim head coach Cristian Stellini and appointing another one in Ryan Mason.

That comes in the wake of the embarrassing 6-1 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday, which brought with it five goals conceded within 21 minutes and the first within 63 seconds as Spurs capitulated in the most humiliating of ways. That resulted in Stellini's departure along with most of his coaching staff after just four matches since Antonio Conte left last month.

Mason, still just 31, will be tasked with guiding Tottenham through their final six matches, as he did in 2021 when Jose Mourinho left. Then Levy will need to appoint a new men's first team manager, women's manager and a director of football to replace Fabio Paratici, who stepped down this month after his ban from football activities was rejected in Italy.

Spurs fans will continue to look to who comes in as the next manager of their club, with Julian Nagelsmann, Arne Slot and Luis Enrique among those mooted while they watch former boss Mauricio Pochettino head to local rivals Chelsea without any interest from Levy in a reappointing him. The Tottenham chairman is expected to be on the end of plenty of chants calling for his exit on Thursday night when Manchester United come to town.
