Why George Johnston was substituted before half-time for Bolton Wanderers in Chorley win

Ian Evatt has reassured that defender George Johnston was taken off during Bolton Wanderers' pre-season win over Chorley as a precaution.

Wanderers were in action this afternoon against the National League North side for their second pre-season friendly. They travelled to Victory Park on the back of a 9-0 win over Longridge Town on Tuesday evening.

They went in 2-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Dion Charles and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson. Elias Kachunga added a third after the break before Connor Hall grabbed one back for the Magpies before full-time in a 3-1 victory.

Johnston started the win at Victory Park as part of a first half side named by Evatt. A completely different Wanderers team emerged for the second half as minutes are given to the squad during pre-season.

But the defender, who started on the ledt hand side of a back three, was taken off with not long to go until half-time. He was replaced by youngster Lamine Toure in defence.

However, Evatt has eased any fears over Johnston being injured in the encounter. He was withdrawn as a precation owing to a tight hamstring.

Owing to the amount of work Wanderers have put in so far in pre-season, no risks are being taken, which is why Johnston was taken off. The Whites are next in action in pre-season on Tuesday in a behind closed doors friendly against Stockport County.

Evatt said: "It was just a really tight hamstring. No injury there, just lots of hard work and lots of fatigue.

"It is important we don’t take risks at this stage."
