Why former Celtic defender Jack Hendry could be set to link up with Ronaldo

Ex-Celtic defender Jack Hendry

FORMER Celtic defender Jack Hendry has been told he has no future at Belgian champions Club Brugge - and could be set to link up with football legend Ronaldo as a result.

Hendry came under fire for his performance away to Eupen and was forced to watch Friday’s 1-1 draw with Zulte Waregem from the stands after being left out of the matchday squad.

It comes as a massive blow for the Scotland international who would've been looking forward to Champions League football and getting back into Steve Clarke's national side for their upcoming Nations League fixtures next month.

Brugge are reportedly open to offers for the player who cost £5million from KV Oostende last summer and the 27-year-old is on the radar of EFL Championship side Burnley as well as Spanish top-flight newcomers Real Valladolid.

Clarets boss Vincent Kompany knows the centre-back well from his time at Anderlecht and is keen to bring players across from Belgium. However, Valladolid, who are owned by Brazil legend Ronaldo, are also plotting a loan move for the out-of-favour defender.

Carl Hoefkens has told Hendry he isn’t part of his plans for the upcoming season after failing to impress during pre-season.

He said: "At the beginning of the season, even before the pre-season, I said that everyone would get a chance to prove themselves. I've done that. From now on, the situation should be clear to everyone."
