Why Facundo Pellistri will miss Uruguay's final 2022 World Cup qualifier

Facundo Pellistri will miss Uruguay's final 2022 World Cup qualifier against Chile.

The Manchester United starlet impressed during Uruguay's vital World Cup qualifying match with Peru. His display ensured his side grabbed the three points with a 1-0 victory, meaning they've now booked their place at the Qatar-based competition later this year.

The 20-year-old's performance has been lauded by the Uruguayan media. El Observador rated Pellistri a seven out of 10 and hailed him as one of the 'best players on the pitch'.

However, the youngster will not play any role in their final qualifying match against Chile. Pellistri picked up a yellow card during the victory over Peru which means he is suspended for the next fixture.

Pellistri has started the last three matches for Uruguay despite finding first-team opportunities hard to come by since his move to Old Trafford. He may have failed to make a first-team appearance for United but his 32 appearances on loan at Alaves in La Liga have helped him gain recognition on the international stage.
