Why everyone 'needs' to look up after it goes dark on Monday night

A woman has gone viral on TikTok after warning everyone to be outside on Monday night.

Under the username @astro_alexandra, the self-described "space communicator" has shared some important news about what people could see if they look up after sky falls on September 26. Her video has amassed more than 20 million views as well as many likes and comments.

Alexandra said: "You need to be outside on Monday night. You can grab a date, grab your friends, go by yourself, but you'd better be outside."

Explaining why, she continued: "Jupiter will be the closest it's been to Earth in 59 years and it won't be this close again for another 107 years. Not only that but Jupiter and the sun will be at the opposite sides of Earth which already makes it appear brighter and larger.

"It will be so bright that aside from the moon, Jupiter will be the brightest object in the sky so it's really easy to spot and you can see it all night. And the best part about all this is that you don't need a telescope, even with binoculars you should be able to see the stripes on Jupiter's surface".

Many users were thrilled by the news while some in the UK made the same joke. One TikTok user said: "Yeah in the UK during any astronomical event, it will be cloudy or raining." Another said: "81% chance of rain on Monday night. Welcome to England."
