Watch LIVE as union leaders answer YOUR questions on why so many workers are on strike

Watch LIVE as union leaders answer your questions about why their members have voted to go on strike.

The Mirror is hosting a special event from 5pm to 6pm with Britain's union bosses where they will take questions and explain why industrial action has proved necessary.

Strikes have hit their highest level for over a decade and are set to ramp up further. Today marks the start of a month-long wave of rail disruption while nurses also set to strike for the first time ever.

This comes on top of planned strikes being held by other emergency staff, such as ambulance crews and paramedics, as well as Royal Mail postal workers and driving examiners.

So just why are so many workers, from both the private and the public sector, being driven to going on strike this winter?

Union leaders answer your questions (Ian Vogler / Daily Mirror)

We're putting your questions directly to RCN nurses union leader Pat Cullen, TUC's Frances O’Grady, Sharon Graham of Unite, train workers' union leaders Mick Whelan of Aslef and Mick Lynch of RMT, and education union leaders Jo Grady of the UCU and NEU’s Kevin Courtney.

They will talk about why their members need a pay rise, the threat to jobs and why so many workers are having to turn to foodbanks to make ends meet... and anything else you want to ask them.

The Union Question Time live stream is hosted by our associate editor Kevin Maguire .

You can watch the broadcast live on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter or at the top of this page.

Send in your questions in advance to features@mirror.co.uk as well as submitting questions as comments or tweets during the broadcast.
