Why Everton have been left ‘furious’ over Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Arsenal transfer talk

Everton have reportedly been left ‘furious’ with claims that striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on the verge of a move to Arsenal. The England forward has long been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, with Mikel Arteta keen to bolster his current frontline.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both look likely to wave goodbye at the end of the season, leaving a considerable gap at the top end of the pitch. Calvert-Lewin has been rumoured to be one of the names under consideration, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Darwin Nunez and Jonathan David having also been mentioned.

During an interview with GQ magazine, it was claimed that the Everton man was on the verge of a move to the Emirates Stadium - speculation that has apparently ruffled feathers on Merseyside. According to the Liverpool Echo, club officials have been left ‘furious’ over the claims, with it being suggested that preparations for the Toffees’ key relegation clash with Burnley were affected.

In the end, Frank Lampard’s men ended up losing the game despite claiming a first-half lead. Goals from Jay Rodriguez and Maxwell Cornet ended up securing the three points for the Clarets, leaving Everton floating just one point clear of the drop zone.

A huge reason behind their struggles throughout the campaign has been the consistent injury issues suffered by Calvert-Lewin. After netting 21 goals in all competitions last term, the 25-year-old has only hit the back of the net on three occasions so far this season in 13 outings.

The 11-time England international still has over three years left to run on his current contract at Goodison Park and his representatives have recently confirmed that the striker has not agreed a move to any club including Arsenal.

Speaking with The Bobble last month, they confirmed: “Dominic has not agreed any deal, with any club. He is currently working very hard in training and is fully focused on finishing the season strong with Everton.”

Calvert-Lewin will definitely play at the Emirates Stadium this year, but will be in a blue shirt, with Everton set to take on Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season.
