Why Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku won't be playing for Belgium against Ireland

Ireland will take on Belgium in a friendly match next month but the Red Devils will travel to Dublin without some big names, including Eden Hazzard and Romelu Lukaku.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez is expected to experiment with his squad for the clash at the Aviva Stadium and as announced in November last year, he will only bring players who have 50 caps or less.

Sadly for the Aviva crowd, they will not be seeing Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard or Romelu Lukaku, Axel Witsel, Toby Alderweireld and Thibaut Courtois who all have well over 50 appearances for their country.

It is still expected to be a tough test for Stephen Kenny's men against a Belgium side who are ranked number one in the world.

The likes of Leicester's Youri Tielemans, Thorgan Hazard of Borussia Dortmund, Michy Batshuayi and Benteke could all still be available for selection as they come in under 50 caps.

The FAI confirmed the fixtures this afternoon with world No 1 Belgium first up on Saturday, March 26 before hosting Lithuania on Tuesday, March 29.

Belgium have instead accepted the offer as part of the FAI's centenary celebrations and Ireland have not played them since their 3-0 defeat in the group stages of the Euro 2016 finals.

The March friendlies are warm-up games for June when Ireland play four Nations League games in 10 days.
