Why EastEnders is not on BBC One as Wimbledon forces channel shake-up

Soap fans will not find EastEnders on its usual BBC channel over the next week or so due to a change to the TV schedule from the broadcaster. The programme has been moved to accommodate coverage of this year's Wimbledon tournament.

Today (June 27), thousands of tennis fans began pouring through the gates at Wimbledon as the sports event began. The tournament is being screened live on both BBC One and BBC Two throughout the day.

However, the channel has had to shake up its TV schedule and EastEnders, one of the UK’s biggest and most popular soaps, has been shifted to BBC Two to make way for tennis coverage. But, despite the change of channels, the show will continue to be shown at the same time of 7.30pm Monday to Thursday.

Meanwhile, all EastEnders episodes for this week have also been put on BBC iPlayer. The show is set to remain on BBC Two throughout this week and into next week as well while Wimbledon takes place.

In the tennis tournament, the first day sees Cameron Norrie face veteran Spaniard Pablo Andujar, while British women's number three Heather Watson competes against Germany's Tamara Korpatsch. Fan favourite and two-time men's singles champion Sir Andy Murray will be among the first on Centre Court, facing Australian James Duckworth. The Scot is unseeded and battling an abdominal strain injury.

First seed Novak Djokovic, who is bidding for a fourth successive Wimbledon title and seventh overall, is also due to be taking to the court in the afternoon. Meanwhile, reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu is set to head onto Centre Court to face Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck.
