Disney+ has made some of its content unavailable to view for their bespoke curated Kids profiles - but they are still available on the streaming service.
The content this applies to includes animated classics such as Dumbo, Peter Pan, and The Aristocats.
The films were noted to be not being made available from the curated Kids' section for under-sevens in reports in January.
Now the films are still available to view on the platform but through profile settings controlled by the account owners, which can make them available to view on the general profile after filtering Content ratings or by setting up a PIN code that is easily set-up by the adults who control the Disney+ account.
Therefore on these mentioned films, their content rating makes them not available to the bespoke age group on the Kids profile.
All of the standard Disney+ features are available in the profiles set with specific user-defined Content Ratings.
On the streaming service's Stories Matter website, Disney have explained why some of these noted films have received advisories.
One of the cats from the 1070 film The Aristocats is noted as "a racist caricature of East Asian peoples with exaggerated stereotypical traits such as slanted eyes and buck teeth."
They also note the accented voiced by a white actor, the lyrical content of songs and the "perpetual foreigner" stereotype.
The Lady and the Tramp has also previously come under similar complaints for racist caricatures of East Asian peoples.
Meanwhile, the original 1941 film Dumbo is noted to "pay homage to racist minstrel shows, where white performers with blackened faces and tattered clothing imitated and ridiculed enslaved Africans on Southern plantations" with the crows and their musical number.
It also notes the head crow is called Jim Crow, sharing a name with racial segregation laws at the time.
The Song of the Roustabouts in the film also features offensive lyrics with stereotypes about African-American workers.
Elsewhere, the 1953 film Peter Pan is noted to portray "Native people in a stereotypical manner that reflects neither the diversity of Native peoples nor their authentic cultural traditions".
It notes the referral to the characters with the offensive term of "Redskins" and the mocking and appropriating of Native American culture and imagery.
They posted on the page their overall principle with these advisories: "We can't change the past, but we can acknowledge it, learn from it and move forward together to create a tomorrow that today can only dream of."
However, it is not just titles in receipt of these advisories that are now only available to view through once filtering the content settings for specific age ratings or through creating a PIN code.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe films such as Iron Man series, Captain America series, and the Avengers series are now no longer visible on the general curated kids' Disney+ platform and are only available the account owner filtering the content ratings or through creating a PIN on the account profile.
The same is true for the Star Wars film series and other live-action films such as the 20th Century Fox series of X-Men films which were previously available for general viewing, along with live-action remakes of animated classics such as The Lion King (2019) and Dumbo (2019).
Instead, the majority of the Kids profiles now consists of 'Universal' certified animated films or live-action content made for the Disney channel or general family consumption, but a customised profile with customised age ratings can be used.
Meanwhile, through their Star channel on the streaming platform there is even more mature content that Disney acquired when they took over 20th Century Fox.
It will also include Disney’s own original content that it released through their Hulu streaming service in the US.
It's clear that this content is not unavailable, but instead gives the parents the option to restrict content where they desire to and provide the account owners with more choice.
