It appears the deal fell through: real estate tycoon Jason Oppenheim and Marie-Lou Nurk have split after 10 months of dating and are both currently back on the singles' market.
Selling Sunset season 6 premiered on Netflix on Friday, May 19, introducing us to Jason's new and much-younger model girlfriend, whom he met while vacationing in Mykonos, Greece. Though Marie-Lou remained cordial while meeting the O Group brokers in the new season, she definitely caused some tension, particularly discomfort for Chrishell Stause, Jason's ex.
So, why did Jason Oppenheim and Marie-Lou Nurk shockingly split so soon? Here's what we know.
Why did Jason Oppenheim and Marie-Lou Nurk call it quits?
Jason Oppenheim took to social media to announce that he and his girlfriend have gone their separate ways.
"While we still love and care about each other very much the distance between us has proven to be too great a challenge to overcome," Jason wrote on Instagram Stories on Wednesday, May 31. "We remain close friends and continue to talk often and support each other and we want the very best for one another. We thank everyone for their support throughout our relationship."
The reality star didn't specify exactly what broke the two up, but there is something to be said for long distances: Jason is, of course, based in sunny California while Marie-Lou calls Paris home, though she split her time between France and the US. However, pre-split, it seemed as if things were getting serious, as Jason claimed to People: "I'm more open to being a husband than I am a father right now. I like the idea that there's no pressure, or a thought about having to have a child with Lou. So it just makes it easy for us."
The two had moved into a new L.A. condo in early 2023, and Marie-Lou was starting to get comfortable with her new role on reality TV. She even offered her thoughts about the O Group staffers on her Instagram Stories.
"I really love some of the cast members. Mary [Fitzgerald], for example, is so sweet. Amanza [Smith] is funny and smart. Chelsea [Lazkani] is also so smart and so funny. I love them. Nicole [Young] has the biggest heart. She’s a really good friend of mine.” (Not that she didn't mention Chrishell. Shade!)
And just recently, on Friday, May 19—coincidentally the day the new season premiered—an Instagram photo of the couple had people speculating that they had tied the knot, as she was wearing a short white dress and he was in a black suit. But it turns out that was just a photo opp, and Jason had to clarify.
"Lou and I quickly realized that our post on Instagram made it look like we had just been married. We received numerous congratulatory texts, as well as angry texts from friends asking why they weren't invited, so quickly changed the caption! All these photos were from an event that we went to together a couple of months ago," he told People.
We're likely to find out more as the story develops, hopefully before Selling Sunset season 7 drops!
