Why Declan Rice alternative prefers Arsenal over Newcastle as Mikel Arteta plots dream transfer

Arsenal appear to already have an advantage over Newcastle in the race to sign Tyler Adams. The 24-year-old midfielder faces an increasingly uncertain future at Leeds United with the Yorkshire-based club at risk of relegation from the top flight.

Only a slight difference is keeping Leeds out of the drop zone; Sam Allardyce's side sit fourth from bottom in the Premier League on 30 points and they have a number of difficult fixtures to still be played. However, despite the Whites' misfortunes, Arsenal reportedly still hold an interest in Adams.

The United States international was once heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, but he eventually penned a deal at Elland Road instead. With Mikel Arteta eager to further bolster his midfield – and possibly right-back options – MLS Transfers have reported that Arsenal and Newcastle are monitoring Adams' situation.

The report states that Sevilla and Hoffenheim are currently the 'most interested' in the American, though he's hoping to stay in England. With the Gunners and the Magpies potentially set to lock horns, it has already been revealed why Adams would prefer the former.

Some of his old tweets have reemerged with the most recent one from September 2016. He Wrote: "Oh Arsenal *love heart face emoji*." Then, in 2013, he welcomed Ozil to Arsenal. Adams simply said: "Yes! Ozil to Arsenal!"

In November, Kevin Campbell claimed that it is inevitable that Adams will leave Leeds after he made a great first impression. Speaking to Football Insider, the former Arsenal ace said: "If you’re Jesse Marsch and Leeds United, you’re desperate for him to stay.

"He’s a tackling machine, isn’t he? He’s a very good player. But if you’re doing well both at the international level and for your club, it’s inevitable. These links start cropping up, and bigger teams start taking notice.

"It wouldn’t surprise me to see him go, but he’s so instrumental to how Leeds United play. The aggressive nature they have, he fits right into that set-up."
