Why Cristiano Ronaldo is training with Real Madrid after Manchester United exit

Cristiano Ronaldo is reported to be in training with former side Real Madrid after leaving Manchester United just under a month ago.

An interview with media personality Piers Morgan just before the World Cup saw Ronaldo heavily criticise United's owners the Glazers and manager Erik ten Hag in a worldwide stunt that saw him become the most talked about celebrity in the world for the best part of a week. The decision to plunge the club into disparity in the midst of a World Cup shocked the football world, although the timing at least came whilst the league was in a month-long break.

However, what came with that was the termination of his United contract after just a year of failure and toxicity at the club. Where his future may lie next remains uncertain, though there could be something which has sparked the rumour mill as we approach January - with Ronaldo said to be training with former side Real Madrid as he keeps his fitness up.

As per Spanish outlet Revel, the Portuguese star has linked up with Los Blancos having left the World Cup over the weekend after his nation were dumped out in Qatar by minnows Morocco in a 1-0 loss. Ronaldo failed to really strut his stuff at the World Cup, scoring just once against Ghana on the opening round of the tournament before failing to have any real impact in the knockouts.

However, despite training at Valdebebas - Real's training ground - the former Galacticos star is away from manager Carlo Ancelotti and the main first team group as he works on an individual fitness regime.

Real are reportedly more than happy to accommodate the La Liga legend, with their relationship still strong after nine superb years for Los Blancos from 2009 to 2018. He was granted permission to train at his old club whilst mulling over his next move, and was joined by son Cristiano Jr.

A move seems to be off the cards with Ancelotti reluctant to damage any potential relationships within the team as per Ronaldo's interview with Morgan.
