Chelsea and USMNT star Christian Pulisic has praised the impact of new manager Graham Potter at the club, claiming the players have had a "great start". It comes after the forward has had a growing influence on the team since the arrival of the new head coach, looking brighter in games he has started.
The 24-year-old has struggled previously to break into the team, offering versatility without nailing down a position for himself in the team. Under Potter, he has played as a wide forward and a wing-back, offering plenty of threat in the flanks as well as when he drives centrally.
His biggest impact so far was against Wolves, where a goal in the second half saw the side move towards a huge 3-0 victory. Asked about the lack of playing time for the men's USA international to that point, Potter said: "He wants to play, he wants to help. But it’s just basic maths isn’t it? You can only pick 11, and there’s 24 of them.

“So unless somebody gives me a solution it’s just trying to work with the players, work with the group, understand that we need everybody, that’s clear for me. Then it’s about how do you get the players on the pitch in roles that suit them. And that role for Christian today [vs Wolves] was a good one, high wide left, he can attack the backline and he managed to score."
While it appeared as though Pulisic could've been close to an exit in the summer, things may shift under the new manager to even extending his stay. That's because 90Min reports that amid plenty of contract decisions for the Blues in the coming years, the forward could have his deal extended as talks are planned.
That turnaround in fortune could be down to Potter, who received plenty of praise from Pulisic in an interview with the Guardian. "He’s been good. He’s come in and the way he’s worked with the players and communicated with the players has impressed me the most. We had a great start with him," said Pulisic.
"We’ve had some difficulties in recent weeks but I think he’s working through it and I think the guys have received him quite well. We’re excited. There’s going to be good things going forward."
It remains to be seen if he will indeed stay at the club for an extended period. However, that switch in stance could be down to the impact of Potter so far and in the foreseeable future.
