While Chiquis has never been one to shy away from the truth, in her explosive new docu-series "Chiquis Sin Filtro," she's pulling back the curtain like never before. Streaming now on ViX since Friday, the series is a raw, unfiltered look at the turbulent life of Jenni Rivera's daughter, where no topic is off-limits—from the dark secrets of her father's past to the emotional scars left by her mother's tragic death.
In a heart-wrenching interview with The Latin Times, Chiquis opened up about why she decided to visit painful memories, particularly those connected to her mother's untimely passing in 2012, her contentious relationship with the Rivera Family, her miscarriage, her recent wedding to Emilio Sánchez, and her moving visit to the place of her mom's fatal accident in "Chiquis Sin Filtro."
"I felt it was important to take those moments and make them into something that can help other people," she explained. "Part of my process has been sharing the process of healing my pain."
Perhaps the most shocking revelations come as Chiquis addresses the abuse she endured at the hands of her father, José Trinidad Marín. Convicted of sexual assault, Marín's actions cast a long shadow over Chiquis's childhood—a shadow she confronts head-on in "Chiquis Sin Filtro." The details are heartbreaking, but it's inspiring to see her recalling her experience with other survivors of sexual abuse. The episode is as educational as it's moving, as well as very different to the previous times she has shared the experience.
"That's what it's all about," she added, mentioning not only "Chiquis Sin Filtro," but her podcast "Chiquis and Chill."
Not a reality TV show
Chiquis is adamant that "Chiquis Sin Filtro" is not a reality show. It's even more than just another celebrity docu-series; it's a deep dive into the life of a woman who has faced unimaginable challenges and emerged stronger. Produced by JK Media Group and her own Busy Bee Productions, the series "has nothing fictionalized. There is no repeating, no acting, no lines," she explained.
Chiquis knows what she is saying. She is a veteran of reality TV after starring in "Chiquis'n'control," "I Love Jenni," and "The Riveras."
"What you see is what you get. Of course, there is planning, but it was all true once the cameras were rolling," Chiquis said. That includes intimate details of her secret wedding to Emilio Sánchez, which they managed to keep private. "It was not the first time I got married, and it was the first time it got out of my hands. This time, we kept it small, and it was so special. I also loved that we could share it with our fans however we wanted," she said.
The Rivera Family Drama in her own words
While Chiquis has avoided discussing the problems she and her siblings are having with their mother's family, the Rivera family drama is prevalent during the filming of "Chiquis Sin Filtro." According to sources from her team, "it was unavoidable if you wanted an honest window into her life. That was what was going on at the time."
Filming found Chiquis suing her uncle Juan Rivera, while her siblings also entered litigation against their grandfather and his business.
Besides the heavy family drama, in "Chiquis Sin Filtro," the artist shines in her own right as a musician and entrepreneur. "Music is always at the center of what I do; people can see me recording my album "Diamante" and on tour," she told us. Her passion was evident as she spoke about her upcoming projects. From new music releases to a major tour in Mexico, Chiquis is proving that she's a force to be reckoned with, a powerhouse in her own right.
