Why Chelsea's big summer transfer business may already be complete amid Jude Bellingham interest

Chelsea have been under the spotlight under their new owners Boehly-Clearlake since the US consortium took over the club last May. A transfer spend of more than half-a-billion-pounds has only brought a heightened expectation for the Blues, who are yet to match that with their performances.

The side sit mid-table in the Premier League after a shake-up to the squad that has seen a number of players join last summer and this January. "I'm not complaining about it," Graham Potter said earlier this month on the squad's size. "It's exciting but a test for me and the staff.

"We have a lot of good players and we have to create an environment where there is healthy competition. Only eleven can play, that is how it is, but it's about being ready and supporting the team." Before adding on the competition for places: "There will be a few awkward conversations because only eleven can play. You have to be as honest as you can and respect the fact that all players want to play and compete on a regular basis."

While there are some questions over the squad spend, size and the lack of results going their way, the next transfer window may not match their other signings so far. That's because, according to the Telegraph, the club accelerated a move for Enzo Fernandez in January to avoid a battle to sign the midfielder in the summer.

The report claims that the Blues broke the British transfer record last month so they would not face competition for the Argentina international from the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City. A whole host of sides are said to be eyeing a midfield option in the months to come, making it tougher to land the perfect target.

However, with Fernandez now signed, that may take away from the initial budget allocated towards a move in the summer as well as taking away a huge signing from that window. That's not to say they won't still push the boat out for a big name signing though as that is still possible.

The report also claims that Jude Bellingham remains an option for the west London outfit, though the side aren't currently favourites to land the England youngster. The plan for the summer is a mystery for now, but Chelsea have already addressed some major areas for concern, meaning fewer signings may be on the horizon.
