Why Celtic are playing Dundee in the Scottish Premiership tonight

Celtic are back in action again TONIGHT as they take on Dundee in the Scottish Premiership

Brendan Rodgers will be looking for his men to extend their gap at the top of the table back to 13 points, as they play their 25th league match of the 2024/25 campaign.

The last time the teams met was less than a month ago at The Scots Foam Stadium, where they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw.

They were due to meet AGAIN around 10 days later on Saturday, January 25.

However, the match was called off due to damage sustained at Celtic Park as a result of Storm Éowyn.

Gale-force winds of up to 100mph battered much of Scotland on Friday, January 24, with the damage caused at Celtic Park clearly showcased in photos.

The match was called off after Celtic advised the SPFL that they could not safely proceed with the encounter with supporters of both teams in mind.

And so, that is why Celtic are in action against Tony Docherty's side this evening.

A club statement released at the time read: "Today’s scheduled Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Dundee at Celtic Park has been called off.

"Unfortunately, due to the stadium damage sustained yesterday, we have been advised that we are unable to proceed with today's match.

"While clearly this is disappointing, the safety of our supporters will always be our priority.

"The rearranged fixture will take place on February 5, 2025 with a 7.45pm kick-off."

Dundee know that a win would take them into eighth spot on 30 points, which would place them level with St Mirren and Hearts on points, albeit the latter's goal difference is far superior.

The Dens Park side were battered 6-0 by the Jambos on their own patch at the weekend.
