Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will not miss the Carabao Cup final despite being shown a straight red card in the semi-final.
The Magpies booked their first trip to Wembley since 1999 - where they lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup final - with a dramatic 2-1 win over Southampton in the second leg on Tuesday. Sean Longstaff was the hero with two first-half goals to give Newcastle a three-goal lead on aggregate before Che Adams pulled one back.
Newcastle then had to dig deep to hold onto their lead after star man Guimaraes was dismissed late on for a foul on Sam Edozie. Paul Tierney had initially shown the Brazilian a yellow card but a VAR review saw it changed to a straight red.

However, Guimaraes will not miss the final of the competition. The Carabao Cup's rules state that all suspensions are carried over into the other domestic competitions. As a result, his three-match ban will instead see him miss out on Newcastle's upcoming Premier League games but his suspension will be served before the final on February 26.
Guimaraes will miss matches against West Ham United, Bournemouth and Liverpool. The Liverpool game is Newcastle's last fixture before the Wembley showpiece.
Newcastle will likely come up against United in the final provided there isn't a disaster in Wednesday's second leg against Nottingham Forest. Erik ten Hag's side all but secured their first place in a first final since 2018 last week with a comfortable 3-0 win at the City Ground thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford, Wout Weghorst and Bruno Fernandes.
