Why Birmingham City vs Rangers Trevor Francis memorial match was delayed

The kick-off time of Rangers' pre-season friendly match against Birmingham City was pushed back at the last minute.

Over ten thousand Rangers fans are believed to be attending the game at St Andrew's on Wednesday evening.

And with Birmingham City introducing new electronic scanners at their turnstiles, it caused huge queues of punters worried about missing a moment of the action.

So to avoid unnecessary congestion, the English Football League outfit took the sensible decision to switch the start time from 7.30pm to 7.45pm in a bid to get as many supporters safely into the stadium as possible before things got underway.

While the hosts informed their fans on social media by writing: "Please note that tonight's kick-off has been delayed by 15 minutes to 7:45pm to allow all fans to enter the ground safely."

Philippe Clement's men will be put through their paces in the Midlands before they travel to face Union Berlin on Saturday.

Rangers' Scottish Premiership campaign begins the following weekend with a visit to Heart of Midlothian.
