Why BBC Breakfast went off air this morning explained by presenter Rachel Burden

BBC Breakfast presenter Rachel Burden has reassured viewers after the programme was forced off air after an alarm sounded. She had been interviewing The Apprentice winner Harpreet Kaur along with co-host Roger Johnson when the drama happened.

Viewers heard the alarm go off and the presenters made their apologies as the studio was evacuated on Saturday at around 9.55am. The screen went to the orange BBC Breakfast screen.

On twitter, Rachel later said everything was okay. She wrote: I"t’s all ok folks - false alarm and yes I did get some cookie pie and get to chat to the fabulous @harpsikaur."

Viewers had seen and heard Rachel say as the alarm went off: "Ahh so we’ve been disturbed by an alarm which may mean that we have to slow things down for a moment

“I’m so sorry everyone. For the time being we’re going to have to leave the studios. So we’ll see if we can come back before the end of the show."

Roger said: “Thank you, enjoy what you’re doing for the rest of the day. I think we are going to have to go."
